Our History

The earliest church in the community was established in 1854. It was documented as, "The Wesleyan Methodist Communion Church". This church burned in the late 1800's. The people met and organized a "Sabbath School" at the Mountain View School House, which was located about one-half mile north of the burned church's location. A short time later, a one room church was built and organized. Because of it's location at the top of a hill, it was named Mountain View Church.

Due to growth in number, this church was replaced in the early 1900's on the same site. In 1969, a new sanctuary was erected. The "Old Church" that was being used for classrooms was torn down and six classrooms and two bathrooms were added to the new structure in 1975. In 1974, two acres were purchased that joined the church land. A fellowship hall was built in 1979.

Due to more growth, a new educational building was erected with ten classrooms. Bathroom facilities were remodeled and enlarged to meet state building codes. Down through the years, many preachers have graced the pulpit at Mountain View Church.

Some of the more recent preachers and their length of service were:

  • Rev. Henry Thompson
    September 1948 through July 1960.
  • Rev. Everett Wright
    July 1960 through June 1961.
  • Rev. Bill Payne
    July 1961 through April 1963.
  • Rev. Austin "Bud" Frye
    June 1963 through June 2000.
  • Rev. David Hunt
    June 2000 through April 2008.
  • Brian Hauk
    August 2008 through April 2018.

God has been good to Mountain View Church of Asheboro over the years. The Lord has blessed us in so many ways. We pray that God's blessings will continue to be upon our church and our church family. We pray that He will help us to go forth and serve Him and our community in a way that will bring honor to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Church Creed

We believe:
  • In God, creator of all things in heaven and earth.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

  • In the Bible, in its entirety, as the inspired and infallible word of God.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Colossians 1:17)

  • In Jesus Christ, the virgin-born Son of God.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16)

  • In the saving efficacy of His blood shed at Calvary for the sins of men.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)

  • In His bodily resurrection from the grave.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)

  • In His ascension to heaven where at the right hand of God, He executes the office of high priest for all believers.

Now all this was done, that it might be fullfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:22-23)

  • In the Holy Spirit, who abides in the believer, sanctifying and delivering from willful sin.

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. (I Peter 1:18-19)

  • In the rapture of the church.

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. (Matthew 24:38-40)

  • In the establishment of Christ's millennium kingdom on earth.

(Millennium - 1000 years of history during which Christ will reign as King of Kings.) And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (Revelation 20:2-3)

Articles of Faith

Creation

God created the heavens and the earth. Without Him was nothing made that was made. Man was created in the express image and likeness of God. God breathed into man the breath of life and man became a living soul. Life begins at the moment of conception. Therefore taking that life consitutes the act of murder.

Salvation

Jesus Christ was the virgin-born Son of God and totally without sin. Without the acceptance of His shed blood, there is no remission of sin. Through Godly sorrow and repentance, one can be reborn spiritually and become a new person in Christ.

Sanctification

The dedication of the believer's life as a living sacfifice unto God enables the Holy Spirit to live within the believer and produce the fruits of the Spirit in the believer's life.

Sanctity of Marriage

Marriage between a man and a woman is a holy bond even as the bond between Christ and His bride, the born-again church. Any such relationship between two men or two women is an abomination unto God and those practicing such a lifestyle cannot be allowed into the membership of the body of Christ.

Church Membership

Those who would seek membership into this church body must also affirm the faith as set forth in this church doctrine and support the body with their presence, their talents, and their means as God has so blessed them.
